Strategic Engagement Convened By The International Organization For Migration (IOM Kenya)

Today, the Organization for Pastoral Peace and Development (OPPD Kenya) participated in a strategic engagement convened by the International Organization for Migration (IOM Kenya), bringing together multi-sectoral stakeholders from both the national and county governments of Turkana. The forum focused on the formulation of a Transhumance Tracking Tool (TTT)—a transformative innovation designed to manage and support pastoral mobility, resource use, and peacebuilding across Turkana County.

The TTT seeks to map and identify densely livestock-populated zones based on critical indicators such as water catchments, animal health and vaccination centres, livestock markets, grazing routes, and early warning systems. This integrated approach will strengthen coordination among institutions working in pastoral resilience, climate adaptation, and peacebuilding.

Importantly, the tool also bridges gaps in the glitch of climate information sharing to the last mile, enabling timely climate action, preparedness for climate shocks, and proactive community response. Embedded within the TTT is a Peace Dialogue Dashboard, a dynamic platform designed to enhance real-time communication, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding efforts among transhumant and host communities.

Through this collaboration, OPPD Kenya reaffirms its commitment to leveraging technology and partnerships to promote peaceful co-existence, sustainable livelihoods, and climate-smart pastoralism in Turkana and the wider Horn of Africa.
